Children's Dentist

As parents, we want our children to have a positive experience when visiting the dentist. Our office on the Connecticut shoreline treats children with gentleness, caring, and a soft touch. Most of our experienced hygienists are mothers and are invested in your child’s positive dental experience. You will be allowed to sit in the room with your child if you choose to yet sometimes it is best for the child to go at it alone. Either way, it is okay with us.

We are equipped to handle most dental services, but we reserve the option of a referral under certain circumstances.

As your child’s dentist, we provide a variety of services including routine cleanings and general dental exams for children, which are important for good oral health.

General dentists provide treatment for patients of all ages, though some pediatric dentists are more qualified for special cases such as children with special needs. It is recommended that children have their first dental visit shortly after their first tooth erupts, or before their first birthday, whichever comes first.

Dentists deals with overall oral health. They diagnose and treat oral disorders and, if there are specific oral health issues that need special treatment, they can refer patients to a dental specialist.

Helpful Tips to make brushing fun!

  • Making brushing teeth a fun activity for kids is key to developing good dental habits. Start by choosing a non-fluoride toothpaste for younger children who might swallow it. These come in various kid-friendly flavors and colors, making brushing less of a chore and more of a treat. As your child learns to spit out toothpaste, you can transition to fluoride toothpaste for added dental protection.
  • Turn brushing into a playful adventure by imagining the toothbrush as a mighty hero battling against 'cavity villains,' or play their favorite song for two minutes - the recommended brushing duration - to create a mini brushing party!
  • Another great tip is to lead by example. Kids love to imitate, so make brushing a family activity. Show them how you brush your teeth and make it a shared routine, perhaps brushing together every morning and night. You can also use stories or apps that focus on dental hygiene, turning brushing time into an interactive storytelling session. Positive reinforcement works wonders, too. Praise their efforts, no matter how small, and consider a reward system like a sticker chart to track their brushing habits. This approach makes brushing enjoyable and instills the importance of oral hygiene from a young age, setting the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
